Teenagers in Watford and Three Rivers are being invited to Shout about Climate Change! by local company Renewable Energy Systems as part of a nationwide campaign with Friends of the Earth to raise awareness about just how important it is that we tackle global warming.
11-13 year olds are being asked to come up with a poem, rap or song that tells people about climate change, whether it be the human causes of it - from power stations to poor building design - or the effects of it in terms of melting glaciers, rising sea levels, floods and drought, or the solutions to it including cutting down on energy use in the home and renewable energy technologies such as solar and wind power.
"Young people have a way of cutting through the politics and the excuses on climate change and want change to happen fast. It's their generation that will be most affected after all. We want to give them the chance to say what they want to see happen in a way that's creative and gets their message across,"says RES Education Coordinator Annie Heaton.
Children can enter the RES Shout about Climate Change! competition on their own, in a group or with their school. Winners will be invited to perform their creation at the RES Public Open Day next summer. The closing date for entries is 23 November and entries should be sent to:Annie Heaton
